Hong Kong’s climate is sub-tropical. May to August are hot and humid with occasional showers and thunderstorms, particularly during the mornings. Afternoon temperatures often exceed 31°C whereas at night; temperatures generally remain around 26 °C with high humidity.

Octopus Card

The Octopus card, a pre-paid card that can be topped up with cash, is extremely useful in Hong Kong as it allows you to access all forms of public transport (except taxis) and pay for items in convenience stores, some retail shops, coffee shops and some fast food outlets.You can buy one from any Airport Express Station or MTR station, and get the balance and deposit back when you return it.

Visa Requirements

Purchase of SIM Cards

If you would like to purchase a local SIM card for your stay in Hong Kong, there are several options past baggage claim in the arrivals area of Hong Kong airport. There is a 1010 outlet, a major Hong Kong mobile company, while SIMs from other carriers like China Mobile can be purchased at 7-Eleven. All offer packages that provide 4G data for a short stay.

Smoking Regulations

Smoking is prohibited in all indoor public places, including restaurants, malls and bars. The smoking ban also covers both indoor and outdoor areas of some premises such as public beaches and swimming pools as well as public transport carriers and facilities. Anyone smoking or carrying a lit cigarette, e-cigarette, cigar or pipe in designated no-smoking areas might be liable to a fixed penalty of HK$1,500.
